Nike frequently incorporates Japanese design elements—such as the split toe of the ISPA Drifter and the use of red and white for Setsubun—into their products. The “Industrial Blue” upper of the recently unveiled Dunk Low is patched like Sashiko, a time-honored embroidery method.
Nike has previously used Sashiko on the Air Force 1 “Nai-Ke,” albeit in a much busier fashion, so this wouldn’t be the first time they’ve relied on this craft. Here, the much-loved design of the late Peter Moore uses the effect sparingly on the shoe’s toe box and heel tab. Denim overlays and underlays are “Industrial Blue” and “Summit White,” respectively, and the upper is otherwise plain save for the contrast stitching on the outer panels.
