When it comes to celebrating the Lunar New Year, there’s no such thing as a half-hearted approach. Nike has more than a few ways to celebrate the new year, from “CNY” releases to the “Shapeless, Formless, Limitless” series. With this Nike Dunk High Up “Setsuban” or “The Seven Gods of Good Fortune” set to join the party, there will be a series of special releases to follow.
The insoles of this pair are adorned with Kuniyoshi Utagawa’s famous illustration of the same name from the Edo period. In this painting, the Japanese imperial court’s Gosekku (five annual ceremonies) are depicted, beginning with the New Year’s Eve Kochohai and continuing through the four later-day celebrations. To match the print’s colors, tan suede and off-white uppers are paired with a few muted purples, greens, and golds. In addition to the demonic motif on the tongue, the shoe features metallic gold embroidery in three places: the profile, the heel, and the demonic motif on the sole.
The Nike Dunk High Up “Setsuban” has been scheduled for release on January 30 in Asia and is expected to remain regionally exclusive. The Nike Dunk Low for Setsuban will also be part of the set.
