Ever since she first debuted her signature silhouettes with The Swoosh in 1995, Penny Hardaway has been hailed as one of Eric Avar’s most innovative designers. Penny’s first two signature models, with the help of Social Status, have quickly experienced the same raucous energy that surrounded them throughout the late 1990s; the latest Air Penny 2 builds on the OG outfit of its predecessor, now anchored by black patent leathers.
Although this September’s darker Social Status x Penny 2 “Playground” is nearly identical, the model’s wrapping mudguard and bug-eyed ankle panel remain dissimilar. The former offered a glossy jet-black textile, while the latter enjoyed a light grey proposition. In addition, the black leather uppers incorporate white stitched laces and pull tabs for a bit of contrast, and the colorless hue treats the wavy molded midsole and lining for an added touch of style. Finally, a powder blue “1 Cent” emblem covers the ankle, heel, and tongue tab, while its lighter counterpart covers the semi-opaque tread and the bulbous section of the heel clip at the end.
