In 1998, the Nike Air Max Plus was released in Europe to much acclaim. It became a must-have for certain subcultures across many countries including France where Sean McDowell designed this latest collection that features colors inspired by their street culture and flag on an upper heel or sole unit design respectively.
When paired with the chain graphic printed atop its mesh base and blue, white & red that takes over the “AIR” badge on top of the tongue it seems as though Nike has paid homage to an important event in France’s street culture or sports scene from 1993. When a shoe is predominantly black and silver, it can be difficult for the other colors to stand out.
However, this Nike Air Max Plus “France” design allows McDowell’s red and blue air cushioning underfoot as well as the tread on top of that makes up most part-of visible aspect in the spotlight; additionally, there are reflective strips around the toe lid which shines when light isn’t optimal situation but still allow wearers statements about themselves even then.
