Without “Air,” Nike would not have achieved its current level of prominence. As a tribute to Marion “Frank” Rudy, the inventor of the technology, the brand commemorates its 40th anniversary.
With this simple colorway, Nike pays tribute to the Father of Air with a few nods to the accomplished Aerospace Engineer. “M. Frank Rudy” is printed on the aglets, as well as a sign along with the sock liner, which features a blueprint-inspired graphic. In addition, there is a California license plate hangtag on the laces; “Est. 1990” is written on the cushioning, which references the silhouette’s debut in 1990, and the heel tab is partially transparent, emulating Air cushioning.
