In 2005, Nicky Diamonds, founder of Diamond Supply Co., collaborated with Nike on the SB Dunk Low, introducing the precious stone to sneaker culture. Tiffany & Co. initially resisted the brand’s increased visibility within the subculture because the collaboration wasn’t official. Still, the company has since come around and is giving us a sneak peek at the upcoming Tiffany & Co. x Nike Air Force 1 Low.
The black, aqua, and chrome pair looks a lot like that SB Dunk drop, as reported by Sole Retriever and Instagram user @gabeagool, but the similarities are due to the signature colors of the jewelry design house. The black nubuck uppers and tumbled leather at the Swoosh nod to the original design, but the chrome appliques at the heel and the etched tongue labels are where the modern AF-1 shines.
The shoelaces are not thin cords like those found on most athletic shoes, but rather the thick roped kind was seen on many Tiffany & Co. pouch cords and bag handles. The shoes will come with a selection of laces, at least one of which will be a bright golden yellow.
Finally, the “1837” moniker refers to a subset of Tiffany And Co.’s product line that takes inspiration from its founding year and generally adheres to a simpler design; new images (as of January 26) reveal three additional lacing options.
