Nike’s annual Puerto Rican Day release, which switches between the Air Max 97 and the Air Force 1 Low, has come under fire in recent months for its design and execution. Nike has taken a beating recently for a slew of blunders, ranging from flipped flags to misappropriated artwork. For Puerto Rican Day 2022, the Nike Air Force 1 Low “Borica” might be the icing on the cake.
The shoes, which are covered in pastel suedes, feature a variety of colors on each foot, including blue, purple, gold, peach, pink, and red-orange. Although the perforations on the mid panels and toe appear random, the special set of dubraes indicates that they are a nod to the game of dominoes. Only the white Swoosh and heel overlays, leather liners, and white and blue sole units are mirrored on the two feet, which are otherwise identical. A special Puerto Rican heel logo and brightly colored insoles complete the footwear look.
The new Nike Air Force 1 Low “Boricua” has yet to be given an official release date, but it’s safe to assume it will arrive in time for the annual Puerto Rican Day celebrations in June. Take a closer look at the pair below until more information is available.
