The goal for the original 990 designers was to make the absolute greatest running shoe on the market. The completed product is much beyond expectations. The 990 had a three-figure price tag and a beautifully subtle grey color scheme when it appeared on store shelves in 1982. The 990 symbolized excellence and outstanding taste for both ardent runners and trend-setters.
Since 1982, the design has been updated, and there are now additional color choices, but the 990 still exudes an air of aspirational luxury. We’ve never stopped producing the 990 because it’s such a great shoe. The 990v3 has ENCAP midsole cushioning and superior upper construction.
