Since the introduction of Joe Freshgoods’ 992 in 2020, sneaker society has kept a close eye on the Chicago-born artist. The 990v3 “Outside Clothes” and the recently unveiled 9060 have both received critical acclaim, and New Balance has now entrusted Freshgoods with the design of the company’s forthcoming New Balance 550 “Conversations Amongst Us”.
The 550 is the star of the capsule, which includes 12 distinct sneakers and a wide selection of clothing. When first spotted on the hardwood earlier this month, Freshgoods described the shoe as “like a white tee in the Summer.” Most of the outer construction is made of canvas, dressed in a light tan color similar to AURALEE’s take on the same shape. A desaturated aesthetic is chosen for the neighboring leather, while a vibrant, vintage-inspired yellow is used to highlight the midsole, seams, and the “N” emblem on the outsole.
The “Conversations Amongst Us” slogan is printed on the insole of this 550, which will be available at NewBalance.co on April 15th.
