Hello Kitty-themed Nike footwear and accessories, including a new colorway of the ultra-rare Hello Kitty x Nike Air Presto, will be available shortly.
Hello, Kitty’s 30th anniversary was marked in 2004 with a worldwide art show dubbed Kitty EX by Sanrio. From a collection of roughly 60 diverse international artists, designers, and companies, this show exhibited unique artwork and products. While participating in Kitty EX, Nike planned to release a line of Hello Kitty-themed Nike Air Prestos.
There were originally going to be four hues and 500 pairs of each, according to Steven Smith, one of the designers Mark Parker charged with developing the OG Hello Kitty x Nike Air Presto. This did not come to fruition. For the most part, just a few dozen pairs were produced for close friends and family members. Hiroshi Fujiwara’s white/pink pair and Steven Smith’s black/grey pair are the two most recognized colors from this series.
Twenty years later, the Hello Kitty x Nike Air Presto is back in stores for the first time since its first release in 1996. The design elements from the 2004 pairs have been retained, however, the colors have been changed. A Hello Kitty pattern covers the whole top, which is in University Blue. There’s also a translucent sock liner and a white TPU cage. White midsoles, black outsoles, and graphic insoles round out the design, which also has Hello Kitty’s face on the heels. With the purchase of the Prestos, you get a unique package that comprises a variety of Hello Kitty and Nike items, including an outfit that matches the sneakers.
