Bad Bunny would undoubtedly be included on a top-tier list of those who had the best 2022. When the Puerto Rican superstar wanted to sell more merchandise and do more good through his partnership with Adidas, he didn’t just break records for touring and streaming. The first shoe from the historic collaboration for 2019—an Adidas Campus Cloud White—will be released before the end of the month.
The unreleased pair can be seen in the artist’s “El Apagón” music video and mini-documentary, and while they may initially appear to be a new silhouette from the German sportswear giant, closer inspection reveals design cues rooted in the 1970s and 1980s. The entire sole of the sneaker is constructed from hairy suede, with the profile 3-Stripes branding standing out in a similarly subdued leather. A non-traditional support overlay at the heel area calls to mind the Adidas Country and certain iterations of the Campus from the past. The area around the collar is padded generously, just like the famous Forum Buckle Low by Benito Antonio Martnez Ocasio.
There are also nods to Achielles’ previous work for the German institution in the form of the “El Ojo” (“The Eye”) logo, a double tongue, and a layered heel. Though the classic “CAMPUS” logo remains on the shoe’s lateral side, a curved TPU foxing provides reinforcement and a sleek look in the area above the “aged” midsole. Last but not least, the Campus option is undeniably an Adidas Originals creation thanks to the traction underfoot that was inspired by basketball and has remained unchanged for decades.
