So far, the GEL-LYTE III has had a relatively busy year. Along with collaborating with Ronnie Fieg for his 99th and 100th ASICS collaborations, the silhouette has produced a slew of inline hues, ranging from a tribute to the Master’s Tournament to various “Colored Toe” styles. And now that Spring has arrived, the Shigeyuki Mitsui-designed emblem is getting another makeover, inspired by traditional Japanese tea ceremonies.
The GEL-LYTE III “Rooibos” is part of the footwear brand’s “Ocha Zome” collection and is made almost completely of recycled materials, with each panel colored using leftover ingredients from the creation of matcha tea. This gives much of the construction a fairly natural tone, with the overlays and foundation offering a light and dark shade of brown, respectively, slightly.
