Rui Hachimura of the Washington Wizards is an NBA star in the making, and he has a lot to be proud about. The 23 year old Japanese forward was just signed by Jordan Brand after being selected 51st overall during last summer’s draft. To celebrate him they gave out special edition Air Jordans for his birthday–and soon enough there will also be 8th generation shoes launching at retail too.
The new retro Air Jordan 8 “Rui Hachimura” has been revealed in a “Twine/Gym Red /Black & Sesame” colorway. The compelling thematic ensemble features perforated and non-perforated suede, with smooth synthetic leather across the upper; it also includes overlay markings on both tongue tags as well as an “aged” pattern throughout which pays homage to some of his personal touchpoints like chenille material that reprises its role from before (both components opt for bold scarlet). The sneaker’s packaging is reworked for the special occasion, with tissue paper donning an “H” logo alongside Nike Inc branding. The box itself deviates from standard graphics in favor of one that depicts Hachimura winning the ball off two-spirit hoopers; Japanese characters accompany this picture showing him wearing his Jordan 8 proudly as he leads Washington Wizard towards victory.
Enjoy early images of the pair here below, and anticipate a Nike SNKRS released in 2022.
