With offices in Portland, Oregon, as well as the famed Flight 23 store in Los Angeles, Jordan Brand has a strong presence in California. The Air Jordan 36 Low is now being introduced by the Jumpman with the help of Crenshaw Skate Club and Koolmac, who collaborated on a pair of PE-inspired takes on the model.
At just 19 years old, Tobey McIntosh is a rising star in the Los Angeles streetwear scene and has already collaborated with the NBA’s LA Clippers on these Air Jordans. It features a CSC logo on the left tongue, as well as a CSC logo on the inner tongue/insole graphics inspired by the apartment buildings he grew up in, and brown and tan colorways. When you hear the name Michael Jordan, even if you’re not a basketball fan, you think of excellence,’ McIntosh wrote on Instagram. To be able to align oneself with such greatness is a surreal experience. All kids who look like me should know that they, too, can be Michael Jordans in whatever field they choose.’
Cameron Look, a photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, goes by the moniker “Koolmac.” AJ 36s features a green and yellow color scheme with a custom tea graphic on the tongue, boba-inspired hits on the mudguards, insoles, and outsoles, and a repeating print on the upper that reads ‘Matcha Man.’ AJ 36s are best known for their shots of NBA stars like Steph Curry and LeBron James. Photography is not a job for product designers, and vice versa. According to Koolmac’s own Instagram post, ‘Asian-American kids from the Bay area don’t get their own Jordans.’ After three years of working in Nike retail, I’ve always wanted to see a day like this. I’m learning how to bring my ideas to life through first-hand encounters and interpersonal connections.’
